MEGAFONE.NET/2004-2014
De Antoni Abad
Programme
The exhibition megafone.net/2004-2014 is an audiovisual installation documenting a decade of project activity, created by Antoni Abad (Lleida, 1956).
Since 2004, megafone.net has been inviting groups on the margins of society to express their experiences and views. Using mobile phones, these groups record audio, video, text and photo messages and publish them instantly on the internet. The project participants turn these devices into digital megaphones that can amplify their individual and collective voices, which are often ignored or distorted by the mass communication media.
This project is constantly evolving, setting a clear precedent on social media and pioneering the exploration of possible social and communicative uses of mobile technology since its use became widespread in the late 20th century. Abad, who has focused his artistic activity on digital media, brings togethera number of collaborative projects involving mobile web publication, some of which are still up and running today.
Opening ceremony: 31st October 7pm.
