From January 15 to February 1, Aída Gómez’s Spanish Dance Company will take the stage of Sala 1 at the Matadero’s Naves del Español. Under the title Adalí: From tradition to future, we are what we dance, the dancer and choreographer will take us on a trip to the heart (but not the past) of flamenco. It’s about music and choreography, looking to the future hand in hand.
“Our symbols are our heritage, and they are found both in artistic ingredients and figures as well as the sound marks, styles of flamenco and structures which —endowed with their own poetry and with their vital essence— we shall turn into a danced language, and theatre into dance. Rondeña, Farruca, Alegrías, Tangos, Seguidilla, Soleá…all these styles have been treated with the seriousness required by the mere mention of their name. They are the dances that provide the initial sketch for the new choreography, and inspired music has tapped into a series of harmonic, classical references where the instrumentation draws from our rich symphonic legacy. Choral or solo dance and even some delicate instrumental pieces are meant not only to be enjoyed but also to send an important message: we are what we dance."
