PHotoEspaña and its Discoveries programme are celebrating their 18th birthday and a selection of works by the 17 award-winning authors to date is prensented.
This year the Discoveries programme, along with PHotoEspaña Festival itself, is celebrating its eighteenth edition. Since 1998 the  PHotoEspaña portfolio viewing project has been a platform for the presentation and analysis of the work of the photographers coming from different places in the world who have had the opportunity to comment on their work with acknowledged professionals in the medium. The call for viewing, one of the most outstanding professional activities in the Festival, culminates with the choice of an annual award that cele- brates a solo exhibition of their work the following year.

On the occasion of the programme’s coming of age, there is the presenting of a selection of works by the seventeen award winning authors to date. Among the series chosen there is a showing of an image illustrating each author’s work at the time they received the award. The work of creators so different in their aesthetics, conception and origin as Matías Costa –the first award winner in 1998–, Tanit Plana (2002), Vesse- lina Nikolaeva (2005), Harri Pälviranta (2007), Vanessa Whinship (2010), Fernando Brito (2011) and Nancy Newberry (2013) is being exhibited on the “beds”, iconic structures in the patio of Matadero Madrid.
