Salsódromo is an initiative whose main goal is to disseminate salsa music, which is understood as one of the most idiosyncratic manifestations of Latin American pop culture. It seeks to create a space conducive to intercultural dialogue through the medium of dance and through celebration of its different variants, including everything from classic salsa to neighbourhood salsa and salsa brava.

In contrast to the salsa music heard in most commercial dance halls, Salsódromo features specialist DJs who are all music lovers that add value to the party, as well as visual projections and dance groups specialising in salsa caleña, rueda de casino and change-of-role.   Salsódromo, selected at the open call, was held for the first time in summer 2012 in Madrid’s Campo de La Cebada. Its aim is to bring salsa back to our streets, squares and neighbourhoods. Participants will star in and bear witness to a unique moment in the city’s history, and vice versa.
