La Romería de los Voltios, Simpatía Latina and Royal Rumba inaugurate the 2017 programme of La Plaza en Verano (The Square in the Summer)
Grupal Crew Collective has witnessed the evolution of La Plaza en Verano's programme throughout its previous 4 editions. They took part in the 2013 edition and then became members of the curator team in the years after. La Plaza Matadero (Matadero Square) means much more than just a stage for their activities: they treat it as a place in a public venue that allows for a new relationship between a cultural institution and its visitors.

This year they have decided on two projects that were put to the test in the past and succeeded as fulcrums in either two of the shows they were invited to coordinate: opening and closing nights.

LA ROMERÍA DE LOS VOLTIOS (The Pilgrimage of Volts)

La Romería De Los Voltios is an unusual celebration, un-rooted in tradition, with no excuse for belonging to anywhere in particular. It is a call conceived for a diverse crowd of party lovers in Madrid who feel the urge of changing the world (even if it is only for a few minutes) through music and dance.
It's referents are the Berliner first edition Love Parade, the tropical carnival parades and also raves and free parties. All of these examples of a party on the move where people (their dances) free themselves from daily obligations.
La Romería De Los Voltios is a massive claim for the use of the streets as a playful space, and the right to enjoy the city.
After traveling around the streets of Matadero Madrid in a pilgrimage with their beloved patron Sound System, the parade arrives at it's square where the rest of activities of La Plaza en Verano 2017 will take place after an opening speech by Sabina Urraca.
SIMPATÍA LATINA 4
Simpatía Latina 4 (latin friendliness) is a musical quartet that covers the greatest all-time hits. Crew members are Lorena Álvarez, Rocío Morales, Alonso Carmona and José Ubago.
ROYAL RUMBA
To set up a party in Madrid having certain music styles in mind (dancehall, salsa brava, funk...) can be challenging and a labor of love for the groups involved. Thanks to their hard work, the rhythmic menu of the city is much richer and wider. Royal Rumba is a kind of tribute and retrospective on some of these music lovers and party-makers of the city who have subsequently turned the square upside down in former years.
