SONSOLES RODRÍGUEZ AND GEMA MELGAR INTRODUCING: INVIERNO, UNA PROPUESTA QUE SE DESARROLLA EN VERANO

Sonsoles Rodríguez, curator and member of the group Las Odio (I hate them), joins Gema Melgar, curator of visual arts and editorial projects in Madrid and Montreal, to offer a hybrid night of music and performance at La Plaza en Verano 2017.   Invierno (winter) is a planet where science fiction writer Ursula K. Le Guin imagines a world where gender identity does not exist and sex is fickle and veering.   “Humanity is not divided in two (…). Actually, all that tendency to dualism that invades human thought is diminished or changed”, and all earths' inhabitants mutate gender once a month indistinctly in their  kémmer (reproductive) phase.    Thus, there's no gender privileges in Invierno and there's no such thing as sexual conflict. There's no room for war either, because she has no notion of “us against them”.   In Invierno, una propuesta que se desarrolla en verano we focus the audience's attention on an imaginary world inspired by K. Le Guin's novel. The starting point for the evening will be the performance DAFRIF by Álvaro Chior, who will lead us through a free fall into what the citizens of Karhide in Invierno call Handdaratta: a state of self escape, ‘auto evasion’, resulting in an increase of conscience and sensory reception. A travel in space and time inside of Plaza Matadero.    Afterwards Raisa Maudit, with her music and visuals, follows Álvaro Chior to start up her Pelea con el Diablo (fight with the devil) She will take us to a state of physical intensity, a special shine, a remembrance of what is known as the first phases of kémmer in Invierno planet. Excessive length of this state can lead to pervasion.   Lastly, Caliza's synth pop taints and magnetizes a journey through atmospheres and soundscapes towards the Hielo de Invierno (winter's ice)-’a plateau turns into a valley, a valley into a stone passage (...) Beyond other mountains, heights, ash cones’- .
