“Madrid es todo luz y oscuridad”. (madrid is all light and darkness) Pío Baroja
Lucía Lijtmaer is a journalist and a writer. She has worked for ADN and Público -among other newspapers- and she has been working regularly for different media for over a decade. She organices events at CCCB, radio shows, Jarvis Cocker translations and she is responsible for Princesas y Darth Vaders (princesses and Darth Vaders). Her session for La Plaza en Verano this time is Matadero s/n. A square is a place for fun, for gathering, but it can turn out otherwise dark. Artists offer a trail of sound and words through the psycho-geography of a very special place: the venue of Matadero Madrid.
Ex Continent
Set in the open air of the square, Ex Continent will perform a sound intervention that will raise from the lines of the square, its sounds and relation to the topography. Can we geolocate the music that brigs us to a trance? Through the three hours that bring us from day to night-time, in the twilight, the audience shall walk about and join the summer pagan celebration, as well as exploring the square's past. Ex Continent is Arnau Sala, one of our best exponents of experimental art. Formerly related to Bèstia Ferida, Les Aus, Vactor or Veiled (with Robert Francisco), he is one of our restless and influential experimental authors.
Servando Rocha
The notions of vigilance, revelations and hidden history of the city will turn up at the psycho-geographic investigation of Servando Rocha, and will then be handed out as a map to visitors. Thus, as the sun goes down, they will be able to follow an interactive trail to discover the unwritten history of a very special square, and an often unseen city. Servando Rocha is a writer, editor (La Felguera Editores) and cultural activist. He has participated in different radical demonstrations related to artistic creation and political activism for twenty years.
