DIMAD and Madrid city town-hall's Foro de Empresas announce the 1st edition of this event taking place in the city of Madrid. This year's edition will have multiple posters on the streets and 12 simultaneous exhibitions between September 25 and November 15. Madrid Gráfica is an annual meeting in Madrid with the best international graphic design.
Madrid Gráfica will show the creative and communicative assets of graphics, including several hundred designers in a large exhibition, working on the same axial theme and motto for each edition. The motto will always have to do with Madrid's values.
The programme, exhibitions and activities of Madrid Gráfica aim at setting Madrid as a city of reference for graphics, a fundamental language to depict reality and to serve as an example for the role of design as a environmentally conscious activity. This year's theme is Mobility and the motto La Ciudad Ligera (The light city). Among other exhibitions, there's La Ciudad Ligera, where more than 500 posters participating in this first call will be exhibited at Central de Diseño de Matadero Madrid. A selection of the 100 best designs will also be exhibited in the open air at the city centre.
In order to guarantee the level and adequacy of the proposals to the theme and values, we have appointed 5 international graphic designers, along with the industrial designer Carmelo di Bartolo, promoter of the expression Ciudad Ligera (Light City): Ivan Chermayeff (USA), Alain Le Quernec (France), Mirko Ilic (Bosnia/USA), Pekka Loiri (Finland) and Alejandro Magallanes (Mexico).
