Programme
Yo Soy Somos is an exhibition where protagonists like Marta, Alima, Gladys… and over ten different women, living in Madrid, show us their personal situations.
Yo Soy Somos (I am we are) is an exhibition where protagonists like Marta, Alima, Gladys… and over ten different women, living in Madrid, share with us their private and shared stories -often invisible- at a local and global scale. A show in the streets with pictures by Angélica Dass and their protagonists, from their personal files. It includes a newspaper/exhibition where photos are accompanied by different narratives about the migrant woman and an exhibition in large photographic blocks located in the square.
The exhibition is a collaboration of different associations and groups such as SEDOAC, Rumiñahui, SOS Racismo Madrid, Mirando por África, among others, together with Alianza por la Solidaridad, within the project financed by Ayuntamiento de Madrid “Migrant women and human rights: exchanging, weaving a net and strengthening the exercise of human rights and women participation in a global and non-discriminating society”.
Angélica Dass, born in Brazil, has an outstanding combination of great creativity, sociological research and the defense of human rights through her work. She got the 2013 award at Festival Off, PhotoEspaña.
This exhibition has been organized by Alianza por la Solidaridad, in collaboration with Madrid town-hall and the cultural proximity programme of Mirador Usera. Inauguration of the photographic exhibition Yo soy somos will take place on May 23 at Explanada de la Junta de Usera , artistically directed by Angélica Dass. The goal of this exhibition is to present these women who are rarely in the news or public spaces, but who have been living in our society for years, sharing initiatives of social change and transformation. Yo soy somos starts off with an approach that rejects prejudice and stereotypes to which these women are usually subject.

Inauguration May 24 at 7 pm.
