Matadero Madrid in figures
Due to its sheer size, Matadero Madrid is unusual among contemporary creation projects.
The Special Plan for Matadero Madrid and its surroundings covers a surface area of 183,566 m2, most of which corresponds to a centre for contemporary creation. (almost 150,00 m2), as well as a constructed surface area of 86,499.62 m2.
Around 18,000 m2 are already open to the public and to creators: 30% of the area subject to the intervention.
Since its opening to the public in February 2007, Matadero Madrid has received more than 400,000 visits.
The site of Matadero is enclosed by the 2,500 m wall built around the former municipal slaughterhouse site.
Warehouses 15 and 16, which will house the Centro Nacional de la Moda fashion centre and a multi-purpose exhibition area, respectively, are the largest buildings on the site, each measuring more than 4,750 m2.
