Support for creation

Creation Grants. As a main form of support, Matadero invites applications for and awards a range of creation grants. Since they were first introduced in 2007, the grants have become one of the leading forms of support for creators, groups and cultural agents based in the capital.

The various grants cover all possible needs: grants for alternative cultural spaces, for groups and for cultural agents who carry out their work in Madrid. Grants are also available to creators of new productions to enable them to stage their works in Matadero and to travel abroad.

Archive of Madrid Creators. Another permanent initiative, launched in 2009, is the Archive of Madrid Creators, which aims to raise the profile of artists who are from Madrid or are based in the city. The archive, which in its initial stages is focusing on visual and plastic artists under the age of 35, is both a physical space - in the Matadero’s entrance hall - and also a virtual space trough the website. All references will be available in Spanish and English.

White Nights. Matadero also organises La Noche en Blanco, an annual culture promotion activity, as part of its support for creation.

Inside the extensive programme of LNEB, every year a programme of activities is held on circuits organised in collaboration with other cultural agents in the city and offering local creators the chance to produce a new work for this special event.
