Gema Darbo

Curatorial residency in collaboration with LOOP Barcelona

Gema Darbo is the recipient of a curatorial residency at the Centre for Artists in Residence, in collaboration with LOOP BarcelonaFabra i Coats and Centre d’Arts Santa Mónica

Gema’s residency is split into two: she will spend the month of May at Fabra i Coats in Barcelona and the month of June at Matadero Madrid, where she is carrying out research that will culminate in September 2022 in a group exhibition at the Centre d’Arts Santa Mònica, exploring the idea of “Home”.

My work takes as its starting point the unstable nature of the principles of language. During this residency I want to reflect on the idea of “Home” from a performative and semantically open perspective that does not lead to a pre-defined concept but has the potential to signify and re-signify itself from the foundations of a non-linear temporal logic and from a decolonial critical base. Moreover, I intend to embark on this project using a participatory methodology that places the emphasis on relational, collective and collaborative co-learning processes. My framework will consider several points of entry simultaneously: The reading of different writers and theorists in the field of decolonial thinking, the work of different artists who work in a transdisciplinary way within this framework, such as Noha Mokhtar, and the research carried out by Júlia Nueno and Xavi Nueno on housing policies in Spain”.
