ECLIPSE : MUNDO

After a few years working with other means (video-essays, laboratories, curating and investigation contexts), Paz Rojo presents the stage creation ECLIPSE : MUNDO (eclipse: world), an approach to the theatrical device and dance from a «dismissing perception perspective». The term «dismiss»  is linked to the crisis and loss of sense, but also to the possibility to contemplate the not-yet produced. How to commit with something that does not yet exist? What is art´s responsibility in terms of future creation? There is a drifting aspect in matter by which dance would not be obliged to look to the future. Dance is not a choreography to perform, but rather it has to be created in the exact place where it already is.
"A hole appears in the space of a black box. A black hole. ECLIPSE : MUNDO is the practice of an «abandonment» (original meaning of the word eclipse). It consists in starting off a no-perspective kinetics as an experience of continuity: a choreography interrupted by its own preparation and a dance simultaneously starting to develop. The possibility of looking at (a) world where everything keeps on existing, but in a different way. A low continuous base deactivates all intentionality through distraction, allowing getting lost. A dancing that, even if it does not have a meaning, it manages to do something", Paz Rojo.
About Paz Rojo Dancer and choreographer Paz Rojo  investigates the autonomy of dance within the productive relations of capitalist value. Her career starts off in 1994 with the outstanding ballerina award at the VIII Certamen Coreográfico de Madrid and the following decade where she moves to Amsterdam where she graduates in coreographic creation at the School for New Dance Development (SNDO University of Arts in Amsterdam) receiving Dutch government support. Since then, her pieces are present in the international Avantgarde scene: Impulstanz Festival Vienna (Austria), Festival Contemporâneo de Dança Internacional (São Paulo) y Springdance Festival (Holland). She was artistic director of Festival ¿qué puede un cuerpo? (La Casa Encendida, Madrid 2014-2015) and staged her pieces at Museo Reina Sofía, the CCCB, Festival Escena Contemporánea de Madrid or the CA2M Móstoles, among other national appearances. Nowadays she studies a PhD at Stocolm University of Arts (UNIARTS) with the thesis The decline of choreography and its movement: the subaltern pathway.
