TERESA SOLAR ABBOUD

All the Things That Are Not There (Todas las cosas que no están) tells the story of a woman travelling around the United States, following the path of American photographer and engineer Harold Edgerton. Her voice guides us along an evocative and uncertain road trip, building a parallel story about the experiments of Edgerton, and straying from her crystal-clear imagery. 

Edgerton was the inventor of ultra-fast photography, underwater photography and the rapatronic camera. Except for a minority of specialists and professionals, nuclear testing sites (or seabeds) are places that are forbidden, inaccessible and dark. In this regard, the character of Edgerton acts as a conceptual hinge, between that which we cannot see, and that which we can distinguish through the partial, abrupt and almost non-existent dazzle of the bright flash.

The video combines fictitious scenes with almost tourist-like documentary images, and creates a conceptual link around the work of the photographer and the meaning of his practice. Through apparently unconnected scenes, the artist extends these initial concerns to other matters, such as reenactment and bodies-illusion.
