Presentación pública del trabajo que han desarrollado a puerta cerrada en la Nave 16 los artistas seleccionados en la convocatoria El Ranchito Japón-Corea.
This new edition of El Ranchito presents the work of eight artists from Spain, Japan and Korea, selected through public open calls organised by Matadero Madrid and the centres it has partnered with in this edition: Tokyo Wonder Site (TWS) and the Goyang Residency Centre of the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art of Korea (MMCA).   The artists and researchers who took part in this edition are Gun-hee Kim and Part-Time Suite from Korea, Nobuaki Itoh and Maiko Jinushi from Japan and Abelardo G. Fournier, Helena Grande, Jonathan Notario and Alejandra Pombo from Spain.   Zero Gravity is the title chosen jointly by the artists-in-residence. It is a reference to an environment of new conditions that one attempts to adapt to, a situation that is often replicated in the artist residency model, where artists look for a new ecosystem to inspire and enable development of their projects.   Matadero Madrid and AECID would like to thank the artists who participated in this edition for their work and effort during the residency. We would also like to thank our partner institutions for their collaboration and support, as well as Aleix Plademunt and Lys Villalba, the two Spanish artists currently undertaking a residency in Tokyo Wonder Site as part of the resident exchange programme, and Cristina Maya, who is undertaking a residency at the MMCA’s Goyang Centre.   The warm reception that the El Ranchito Residency Programme has met with has prompted us to continue to develop new exchange opportunities, working with new centres and creation spaces around the world. Three new open calls are currently underway for participation in the first edition of El Ranchito 2016, which will consist of two periods of residency: an initial residency in Matadero Madrid, coinciding with the ARCO Fair, and a second residency in the autumn at the HIAP (Helsinki), TWS (Tokyo) and Artista x Artista (Havana) centres.   The partnership between AECID and Matadero Madrid will thus continue in the year 2016, with a view towards further increasing the number of cultural agents (residency centres, artists, curators, etc.) that comprise the broad international network which gives shape to El Ranchito.

Opening: Friday 27th, 7pm. Free entrance.
