ORIGINS

The Orígenes (Origins) project came about in Equatorial Guinea in 2008 as a result of a joint initiative of L’Om Imprebís, the Centro Internacional de Teatro Actual, Casa Africa and the Cultural Centres of Spain in Bata and Malabo to establish a group of artists from the country’s five ethnic groups. The resulting national company of 24 artists express their many years of work in an exciting show with its own name: Orígenes.   ORIGINS: THE SHOW This is a show for the stage that brings together dances, songs and celebrations of the five ethnic groups of the people of Equatorial Guinea: Fang, Bubi, Bisio, Ndowé and Annobonese. While putting together all this ethnic material, we noted that the celebrations are linked with people’s cycle of life in Equatorial Guinea. So the show follows this cycle, from birth to death. Thus, among other moments, we will witness the joy of a Fang mokom at the birth of a child, the introduction of a child to the forest in the Bubi ri puri puri ceremony, a young Ndowé’s celebration upon reaching adulthood with the dance of the ivanga, the Bisio people’s nzanga dance to celebrate a wedding and Annobonese whaling traditions. This is an unusual show in Spain, a result of collaboration by artists and creators from Spain and Equatorial Guinea under the general coordination of Gorsy Edu and the direction of Santiago Sánchez.
