From December 1, 2012 to January 27, 2013, Independent Curators International (ICI) will present a series of artists’ projects and archives by four organizations – Matadero Madrid; Videotage, Hong Kong; CAC, Vilnius; and Raw Material Company, Dakar – which are part of ICI’s growing network of collaborating art spaces and curators from around the world. This exchange makes visible the ways in which ICI has recently been able to expand its international partnerships through its new small-scale, flexible, and generative exhibitions.
ICI is presenting Matadero’s Archimobile, a traveling archive of almost 100 artists from 16 different nationalities, all connected to the city of Madrid. ICI has selected Andrea Hill from its network of curators to activate the archive, conceive the New York presentation, and commission a new work for the space. Hill will take part in a one-month residency hosted by Matadero in Madrid to further develop her research.
On the occasion of the travel of the Archimobile to New York curator Andrea Hill has selected ex profeso 73 of the 150 artists that are part of Archivo de Creadores and whose documentation is shown now at TEMP. She has also invited Spanish artist Enrique Radigales to perform an intervention on both, the billboard and the Archivo de Creadores web page, where he explores the line between the digital and physical worlds. His commission is a visual “desktop” which borrows the form of the “document” icon and arranges them to mirror the structural logic of the conversations occurring inside the Archimobile.
