DIOSES Y MONSTRUO: ALFRED HITCHCOCK (GODS AND A MONSTER: ALFRED HITCHCOCK) (José Cabanach / 12' / 2010 / Spain)
Alfred Hitchcock introduced himself to the dark regions of man and he wrapped them up in mystery and suspense. Providing his films with a certain sensuality and eroticism and leaving for posterity a sizeable handful of masterpieces. The director drew upon psychology and the dream to weave together his stories; women are put forward as an object of desire and source of fantasy, and his characters often fall prey to moral corruption, which leads them to unethical behaviour. All these key elements in his work are analysed in this documentary.
30 AÑOS DE VOLVER A EMPEZAR ( 30 YEARS OF VOLVER A EMPEZAR) (José Cabanach / 30' / 2013 / España)
It happened 30 years ago, on Monday the 11th of April, 1983 at the mythical Dorothy Chandler Pavillion in Los Angeles. The 55th edition of Hollywood’s Academy Awards, the famous Oscars was held there. The actor Luise Rainer opened up the envelope and read out the name triumphantly: “Volver a Empezar”, she screamed whilst throwing her arms into the air. It was something historic. The first time a Spanish film had won an Oscar in that catergory. As it is exactly three decades from that historic moment, José Luis Garci, the director of this emblematic title, remembers everything that happened on that day which stands out in time thanks to an interview that the director has granted to TCM.
