Lecture Department, organised by Red Bull in Nave de Música, is a series of talks that will involve artists and music professionals, and which will give the general public an up close relationship with the artist, who is normally only encountered on stage or by the professionals working behind the scenes to make the creation of music possible for: producers, promoters, managers etc.

On this first occasion, during May and June, Lecture Department will have the opportunity of approaching national producers, such as Damian Scwartz; the electronic duo Los Pilotos; personalities on the international electronica scene, such as the creator of the record label R&S Renaat Vandepapeliere; emerging artists from the cutting-edge of the Hip Hop scene, such as Agorazein; a meeting with the artist Sam Willis and the band that helped him produce an album, Edredón; the promise of American Garage out-fit Bass Drum of Death, a collaboration between the producer of House Ital and the Barcelonans Aster; the producer Terrance Parker from the Detroit House scene, and the composer Ólafur Arnalds.
Lecture Department runs alongside the rest of Nave de Música’s initiatives, such as Red Bull Studios, the residency program, the audio-visual series Going Visual! And the electronica Bass Camp event in order to try and promote all aspects of music creation, in this case opening up the field of the word so as to get into the creative and professional processes that make up the complex structure of the music world.   Wednesday 15th of May, 21:00h   Daniel Verdú in conversation with: Damian Schwartz   Damian Schwartz has complted a residency at Nave de Música, where he tried to create new relationships and make contact with other artists. We invite him to share new out-put with us through conversation and as a result we will review the trajectory of his professional career and speak about his new projects. Passionate about electronic music, Damian Schwartz started off his career in 2003 when he came into contact with José Luis Villalobos, Tadeo and Alex Under, forming the artistic collective and record label Net28. He is currently one of the most essential names on the electronic music scene. Friday 24th May 21:00h   Iñigo Elósegui in conversation with: Agorazein, Erik Urano & Zar 1, Lost Twin   The Madrilenian collective Agorazein and the vallisoletanos Erik Urano & Zar1 are two unavoidable names on the national Hip Hop scene. The former revolutionised the web with their album “Kinof Red” and, more recently, with their two records and project C.Tangana, as well as other works. The latter form part of the collective Urano Players and put stock in a more experimental and futuristic vision of Rap that has been reflected in their work “Energía Libre¨. Both of them have collaborated in the past, and on this occasion they have invited Lost Twin – the Sevillian producer based in Brighton and one of the most promising Spanish beatmakers- to work with them in the Red Bull Studio, Madrid. We are taking this opportunity to talk with all of them in a Lecture at Nave de la Música.   Wednesday 29th of May, 21:00h   Xavier Puig in conversation with: Sam Willis & Edredón   Sam Willis is one half of Walls, an ambient Techno duo on the Kompakt label. In 2013 he is preparing his solo debut album and on this occasion is coming to Nave de la Música to produce his new álbum with Edredón, an experimental electronic Madrilenian band that came about in 2010, with the help of Origami Records – Boat Beam otherwise known as Maika Makovski- We are taking this opportunity to talk to them about their respective careers and projects as well as their studio collaboration.   Tuesday 4th of June, 20:00h   Pepo Márquez in conversation with: Bass Drum Of Death   Bass Drum of Death are an American Garage band on Fat Possum Records, hailing from Mississippi and made up by John Barret and Colin Sneed. With only a guitar, a drum kit and a microphone connected to a computer they have recorded their debut album entitled GB City (2011). After a collaboration with Hodgy Beats and Left Brain from Odd Future, Bass Drum of Death released their new self-titled record, Bass Drum Death, in 2013, on the label Innovative Leisure.     Thursday 6th of June, 21:00h   Daniel Verdú in conversation with: Ital & Aster   Ital & Aster are taking a leading role in a new Artists Encounter at the Red Bull Studio, a project in which two artists are invited to collaborate for two days to produce new compositions. During their stay, we will talk with them about their careers and collaboration in the studio. Daniel Martin McCormick, Ital, is on the label Planet Mu, one of the most solid and reliable of the current electronic music brands, and in 2012 he released his second album, Dream On, on the label, which unleashes itself as if it were a deconstructor of classic House and primeval Techno sounds. We also have Aster, who is also a member of one the most interesting labels on the national scene, Hivern Discs (John Talabot, Pional), where his first album, Danza (2012) has been released.   Wednesday 12th of June, 21:00h   Diego Manrique in conversation with: Los Pilotos   Los Pilotos is an electronic music duo formed in 2010 by Los Planetas’ members Banin Fraile and Florent Muñoz, who complement each other very nicely, Florent deals with sounds derived from software and Banin deals with the hardware end, resulting in a combination of synthetic digital and analogue sounds, which are unique on the national scene. We are taking this opportunity to drop into the Red Bull Studio, and talk to them about the recording of their new album.   Thursday 13th of June, 19:30h   Pepo Márquez in conversation with: Ólafur Arnalds   Making the most out of Ólafur Arnalds stay in Madrid, during the events of Los Conciertos Sublimes, in the Teatro Reina Victoria, we have invited the Icelandic musician to come to Nave de la Música in order to talk about his work. A composer, producer and multi-instrumentalist, Ólafur Arnalds released his new album ‘For Now I Am Winter’ in February, 2013, in which he displayed his characteristic minimalist sound in combination with classical and electronic ones.   Friday 14th of June, 21:00h   Abraham Rivera en conversación con: Terrence Parker   Terrence Parker is a DJ and producer from Detroit, who as been active since the early nineties and has become one of the key figures in getting a grip on American House, he is also responsible for classics like “The Question” and “Love Get Me High”. In addition, Parker is especially well known for his role as a DJ, performing sets that represent a journey through the history of House music. We will be discussing all this when he comes to visit Nave de la Música.   Friday 28th of June, 20:20h   Xavier Puig in conversation with: Renaat Vandepapeliere   Despite being a little known name to the general public, Renaat has played a highly relevant role in electronic music. Founder of the label R&S (in 1984) the catalogue of this label includes hallmark references such as, Aphex Twin, CJ Bolland, Juan Atkins and Ken Ishii. After this first wave in 2008 he decided to relaunch the label with the same success: with artists, such as James Blake, Space Dimension Controller, Blawan and Vondelpark forming part of R&S’ new roster. We will go over Renaat’s professional career on what is a unique occasion to get to know one of the most individual characters on the electronic scene.
