(Anca Damian / 72´ / 2011 / Romania)   Winner of best documentary film at the Annecy Festival. Claudiu Crulic’s legal battle is reconstructed through different techniques in animated film. Crulic is a 33-year-old Romanian who was arrested for theft in Poland in 2007. Crulic asked the Romanian consulate for help, and when none came, he began a hunger strike, which ended four months later when he died of starvation. This case was heavily covered by the media and led to the resignation of the Polish consul’s Romanian Minister of Foreign Affairs, as well as bringing the three doctors accused of being responsible for the cause of his death to court.
