Matadero Madrid is a space for cultural creation and production that welcomes all forms of contemporary artistic research and expression. Created in 2006 by Madrid City Council and located in a space of outstanding heritage and architectural value – the former slaughterhouse and cattle market of Legazpi –, Matadero Madrid encourages the convergence of different artistic languages in the quest for exchange and "contamination" between creators, to facilitate interdisciplinary practices.

Cineteca Madrid is a space that is devoted to the projection, reflection and production of cinema in its artistic forms, designated by Madrid City Council to be the driving force behind the design and implementation of a new municipal policy in support of cinema and audiovisual creators.

Matadero Madrid and Cineteca Madrid are organising Animario. 3rd Madrid International Festival of Contemporary Animation, a festival dedicated to animated cinema in its contemporary expressions that does not however neglect the history of this technique. The 3rd edition of ANIMARIO will take place from 15 to 25 October 2020.

As part of its commitment to the creation and promotion of new languages and expressions of contemporary creation, ANIMARIO has created an International Short Film Competition, open to all animation films, of whatsoever nationality, that have a duration of less than 30 minutes and that creatively work any form of animation.

The films will be eligible for the following awards:

  • Award to the best short film, endowed with €5,000 and a diploma.
  • Jury Special Mention endowed with a diploma.
