The latest edition of the Observatorio de la Cultura ranking by the Fundación Contemporánea (2025) places Matadero Madrid, the contemporary creation center of the Madrid City Council, in third place among the "Essential" cultural centers—ranking behind only CaixaForum and the CCCB (Centre de Cultura Contemporània de Barcelona), and on par with the Fundación Juan March in the national list of most prominent institutions.

Regarding the 2025 national ranking of the most relevant cultural institutions and events in Spain, Matadero Madrid has climbed four spots compared to the previous year, reaching the 9th position out of 110 institutions listed. Within the Community of Madrid, Matadero Madrid—along with Nave 10—remains in 8th place, firmly within the top ten of the region’s best cultural assets.

Furthermore, the Observatory highlights cultural organizations and projects across Spain that serve as benchmarks for their commitment to social responsibility and sustainable development. Matadero Madrid has moved up one position, now ranking 7th in this category.

As a notable new entry this year, panelists have distinguished Centro Danza Matadero as one of the six most outstanding new cultural projects. This performing arts space has also entered directly into the 18th position in the ranking of the most relevant institutions in Madrid.

Recognition of multidisciplinary work for all audiences
These results represent a formal recognition of the work carried out at this contemporary creation center of the Madrid City Council. Throughout 2025, the center has offered a multidisciplinary program aimed at diverse audiences, where outdoor activity has played a key role alongside the celebration of festivals and initiatives ranging from the latest trends in digital art to detailed programming for families.

The work of Medialab Matadero has also been highlighted, securing a 6th place ranking among 59 digital cultural proposals. This ranking also includes the L.E.V. Matadero (Visual Electronics and Extended Realities) Festival, which celebrated its seventh edition at the center in 2025. This festival has been recognized by industry professionals as one of the top 5 essential art fairs and festivals. Both Medialab and the L.E.V. Festival are stable pillars within the programming of the Madrid contemporary creation center, contributing decisively to the dissemination of digital culture alongside other initiatives and lines of work that have been widely embraced by the public.
