Álvaro Chior

‘Alalá do lume’ is an investigation into caves and their acoustic and visual qualities, in relation to the body

Based on the author’s interest in the possible origins of language, image and music and their relationship to bodily and natural processes, the Alalá do lume project uses video and sound to investigate caves and their acoustic and visual qualities. Álvaro Chior relates the cave to the body and its resonating spaces, such as the mouth and the glottis, and also to fire, its light and how it plays on the eye and our visual system.

The project’s starting point is the voice as singing, as flowing air, as an impulse to associate it with a campfire, understood as a space of encounter, ritual and affection, where the collision of the vocal chords with the walls of the cave causes them to reverberate, where the fire generates light and shadow in constant movement.
