Espacio Conciencia Afro

Created in 2016 in the wake of the Afro-Awareness Festival, this group is made up of members of the Afro-descendent community in Spain. Conceived as a meeting space for collectives and entrepreneurs from the African diaspora and for Afro-Spaniards, it strives to serve as a platform that gives visibility to the Afro community in Spain and contributes to its empowerment from a post–colonial perspective.

The project consists of the union of different didactic elements: music, art, film, literature or history in a joint educational process that provides the visitor with all they need to know about the struggles of the African and the Afro-descendant community, casting light on the entire political, emancipatory and evolutionary process that has been constructed over the past centuries and which is highlighted in the critical content of these same cultural manifestations. Some of the activities nourish the others, providing the necessary tools that combine transcultural education and educational responsibility towards the Afro-descendant community in Spain. This group organises the annual Afro-Awareness Festival in the open-air spaces of Matadero Madrid.
