Estudio Debajo del sombrero

Estudio Debajo del Sombrero is a platform for contemporary artistic creation and research and the career promotion of artists with intellectual disabilities, akin to the Art Supported Studios that exist in Europe and other parts of the world.

These initiatives are born out of a determined desire to draw the gaze of the most contemporary art world to the indispensable testimony of the work of artists with intellectual disabilities, to which our attention is once again drawn by a reflection devoid of prejudices, surprised by the unexpected and hitherto unknown transcendence of these gazes.

The Studio currently hosts 37 artists who are supported by Debajo del Sombrero’s team of facilitators and, every year, by a number of volunteers with artistic backgrounds.

The Studio's actions are designed to meet every aspect of the artists' needs: training, accompaniment and guidance in the workshop, selection and archiving of their work, dissemination and promotion, organisation of exhibitions and sale of the work.

They carry out their artist studio sessions in a space at the Centre for Artists in Residence.
