Seeds of cultural change

Seeds of Cultural Change is a multimedia project that explores the initial impulses that lead to systemic transformations. It takes as its starting point a number of fundamental questions: What constitutes a good ‘activator’? What can transform a passive substance, such as flour, into a living mass? When and how should a seed be sown to ensure that it grows, develops and prospers? In what way can a small part of the populace catalyse meaningful social change?

This work is part of a wider research into the concept of ‘biocultural hope’, developed across different geographical contexts thanks to the mobility residency Sustainability is in the AiR (SAiR). Among other outcomes, each phase of the project - carried out in the headquarters of the one of the SAiR partners and articulated around a season of the year and a specific colour - will result in the production of a fanzine.

The winter edition, completed during her residency at MeetFactory in Prague, is characterised by earthy tones and focused on the rhizosphere. The autumn edition, in Turkish red, was carried out during the artist’s residency at Snehta in Athens, where she explored the issues of nutrition and “hungry ghosts”. Yellow will be the colour of the spring edition.
