Olmo Cuña

Colosal Nº 8

Focussing on the sculpture of the Olmec Head erected in the roundabout of the same name in Madrid’s Ensanche de Vallecas district, COLOSAL No. 8 is an audiovisual project that explores the connections between certain urban proposals, “roundaboutism”, the idea of “reflexive nostalgia” and “colossal” historical cinema. Another of the key dimensions of the project is the exploration of film languages and techniques such as the use of “applied colour” (the process of colouring the film by toning, tinting, hand-colouring or stencilling).

Taking these ideas as a starting point, the COLOSAL No. 8 project envisages the making of a short film in the style of a lost “colossal” film or an anachronistic souvenir that speculates on concepts related to the passage of time, utopia, travel, nostalgia and the moving image itself.
