Xenovisual studies
The project Alienación Algorítmica y Xeno-Tuning (Algorithmic Alienation and Xeno-Tuning) by XenoVisual Studies (XVS) explores the intersection between art, technology and gender perspective. It uses machine-learning algorithms to explore the new visualities emerging from the use of these technologies, in order to distance us from normative representations and create what they call: xenovisuality. Through co-creation workshops, the collective hacks the visible, confronting the gender biases present in data and exploring spaces of potentiality. The project seeks to encourage and create a community of experimentation related to this concept.
Biography
XenoVisual Studies (XVS) is an emerging network of artistic and critical experimentation that, over the course of its first year, has been dedicated to exploring the frictions and fusions between the strange and the technological that are transforming the contemporary visual landscape and challenging conventional perceptions of identity, reality and society. This permeable collective was co-founded by Pilar del Puerto, Esther Rizo and Mar Osés. They were later joined by Aníbal Hernández and Andreas Daiminger from the CRA. Their activities have been supported by the Spanish Ministry for Equality and the Complutense University, among other institutions, and they have been invited to present their work at several universities and cultural centres in Spain, Argentina, France, Germany and Greece.
