31 QUEERCINEMAD

Madrid International LGBTIAQ+ Film Festival

Once again, Cineteca Madrid will be one of the central venues for QueerCineMad, the Madrid International LGBTIAQ+ Film Festival, hosting the festival opening and a significant part of its programme from 10 to 15 November. Throughout the week, our screening rooms will showcase a selection that reflects the formal, aesthetic, and geographical diversity of contemporary queer cinema.

Highlighted feature films include Corren las liebres, Elles, Bárbara Forever, A Song Without Home, and a special screening of What We Do in the Shadows (Lo que hacemos en las sombras). The line-up also features several sessions of Spanish, International, and Dissident Short Films that explore new ways of representing identities, bodies, and affections through radical and experimental lenses.

Cineteca will also be the space where audiences can discover some of this edition's most dissident proposals, such as Uchronia and A Paixão Segundo G.H.B, as well as a retrospective dedicated to the historic German filmmaker Rosa von Praunheim—a pivotal figure in understanding the history of European LGBTIAQ+ cinema. Included in this retrospective is Überleben in New York (2010), a portrait of New York's queer communities delivered through the irreverent, activist gaze that defines his entire filmography.

Spanish productions will also play a prominent role, featuring titles such as Cinemania by Marc Ferrer—a queer cartography of Barcelona viewed through the director's unique lens; La Carn by Joan Porcel, an exploration of cruising areas in Mallorca; and Cobijo by Adrián Silvestre, addressing queer migration from Guatemala to the US.

International guests include Avril Besson (Les matins merveilleux), Lorena Ros (Corren las liebres), cultural programmer Ana Pérez from the Goethe-Institut, and Camille Zéhenne (Las damas).
