Acción!MAD celebrates its 16 edition with Germany as guest country. Programme curated by Marita Bullmann.
Acción!MAD began in 2003, a time when there was no festival dedicated specifically to Action and Performance Art in Madrid. It arose from the need to fill this gap in the city’s cultural programme and it established itself as an annual event that offers the public a broad and deep vision of an independent and autonomous genre, governed by its own rules of time and space.

“Throughout these fifteen editions we have tried to cover a vast geographical spectrum, to show different generations of artists and different sensitivities, paying special attention to the work of women whose contribution to Action and Performance Art has been, and is, extremely important, original and fruitful”, explains its technical and artistic director, Nieves Correa. Acción!MAD has been visited by relevant artists, such as Esther Ferrer (Spanish National Plastic Arts Award in 2008), Concha Jerez (Gold Medal for Merit in Fine Arts in 2011), Isidoro Valcárcel Medina (Spanish National Plastic Arts Award in 2007) or Nacho Criado (Gold Medal for Merit in Fine Arts in 2008 and Spanish National Plastic Arts Award in 2009).

In addition to showcasing actions and performance art pieces, Acción!MAD organizes workshops, round tables, theory-based presentations, discussions, lectures, proposals for the public space and more. Since 2008 it has also featured the section Espacio Frágil (Fragile Space), devoted to young artists beginning their careers in the discipline, organised in collaboration with Fine Arts faculties and schools all over Spain. This year, the guest country is Germany and it is curated by Marita Bullmann (Essen, 1982).
