March 20 is International Storytelling Day, which has been celebrated since 1991 to remember that art of telling stories out loud- one of mankind's most ancient arts‐ is present and alive in all our cultures. The idea came about in Sweden and, from there, thanks to contact between storytellers via the Internet, it has spread throughout the world. In recent years more than twenty-five countries over five continents have joined in on this commemoration.
The Asociación Madrileña de Narración Oral [Madrid Association for Oral Narration] (MANO), made up of professional storytellers whose goal is to disseminate and defend the art of telling stories, will gather its members for the third consecutive year under the banner of "RIGHT TO DREAM", joining the celebration.
The III International Storytelling Day Conferences will take place between March 2 and March 21 and, in addition to other activities, we will hold "The Adventure of Listening, An Homage to Ana Pelegrín" with the goal of remembering the figure and work of this great researcher of the oral tradition.
To open the conferences, there will be a roundtable event in which the following people will participate:
- José Manuel Fraile Gil, studying the Tradition, Ethnoliterature, and Traditional Music
- María Jesús Ruiz, Philosophy and Arts Department, Universidad de Cádiz
- Flor Salazar, Philology Department, UCM
- Ana Valenciano, Philology Department, UCM
- Susana Weich-Shahak, University of Jerusalem and Universidad de Alcalá in Tel Aviv
