Trials aimed at self-sufficiency: Open Laboratory and Learning Communities
Agronautas collaboratively develops prototypes for ecological equipment, so-called #AgroAppliances, to reflect on and generate common techniques based on sustainability through creative practices. These form the basis of its Trials aimed at Self-sufficiency, which connect regulated research areas and public spaces accessible to the people. They swap methodologies and practices for generating citizen learning communities: Open laboratories where protocols can be set up and ecological equipment can be adopted and applied to achieve greater self-sufficiency as regards energy, technology and food.   Agronautas works on nodes at different geographic locations for re-inventing sustainable, resilient, contextualised practices by establishing places where experiences/skills/knowledge can be learnt/taught/transferred in order to enhance our self-sufficiency in a creative manner based on such concepts as #sustainability, #common good, #resilience, #design and #open_source. In 2014, the next phase involves working on two base nodes in Madrid and Bilbao, as well as with adapted applications in Reykjavik (Iceland) and Oslo (Norway) in partnership with local bodies in order to research and design new prototypes for adapted #Agro Appliances and generate documentation that makes the construction, operation and use of the developed ecological equipment transparent by way of open sessions.   The #Agro Station is a collection of ecological equipment built by citizen workshops at Intermediae, which you can visit on Calle Matadero. It is a covered, mobile space housing self-constructing, open source systems for saving energy and resources, which allow us to cook using solar power, keep food fresh without using electricity, purify water by means of plant systems and microbial systems, and produce energy using the wind and human power.   The #Agro Station is a shared infrastructure and a common good to be located in different public spaces in Madrid where the community acts as a source of creation, experimenting with and testing the developed solutions in real situations. Its launch has been proposed for early 2014 in collaboration with the Proyecto Paisaje Tetuán (Tetuán Landscape Project) through its facility at one of the target sites as well as local activities.   Activities for January to March 2014   > Environmental transparency sessions / January 2014 Open sessions for understanding, assessing and showcasing the savings and use of resources and energy associated with the construction and use of ecological spaces and devices. - Environmental Statement Sessions: Life-cycle analysis, Gauging and Assessment of savings and consumption in the production and use of ecological constructions and equipment. - Graphic Formatting Sessions: Visual formatting of compiled information.   > Transference of ecological equipment use / February 2014 Development of graphic information and manuals for operating ecological equipment developed for transferring such technology to the people. - Experiences in the use of Agro Appliances. Open sessions. - Sessions of Graphic Visualisation focused on transference. Open sessions.   > #Agro Station Roaming / March 2014 In collaboration with Proyecto Paisaje Tetuán, the #Agro Station will be visiting one of the target sites where a community-run urban kitchen garden has been launched. Local dynamics and activities are planned, in collaboration with other collectives involved, in order to activate the equipment on site.   > Development of new #AgroAppliance prototypes. Open design sessions. This involves the designing of ecological equipment adapted to different collective and individual situations, development of graphic information and production of prototypes using different production methods: artisan, mechanical and digital.   Please refer to the schedule at INTERMEDIAE More information PEZESTUDIO   Project subsidised by: Factories for Creation Programme run by the Basque Government's Department of Culture, EEA Grants from the Norwegian Embassy, Grants Programme for Contemporary Creation run by Madrid City Council's Arts Department.
