Animario 2018

Matadero Madrid and Cineteca introduce the first edition of ANIMARIO, a festival that will bring to Madrid the work of those artists and writers who use animation as a means of expression and creation.   With the motto "imagine the real, create the unimaginable” and along with Carolina López -director of Animac- as guest curator, ANIMARIO introduces a selection of the most prominent national and international animation works from the last few years, all in different genres, formats and languages: from stop motion to virtual reality, from the animated documentary to more experimental speculative fictions.    ANIMARIO will take place in September 21 to 23 at Cineteca, main festival´s venue, and different spots in Matadero and the shopping centre Plaza Río 2. There will be an intense 3-day programme of screenings, talks with international artists, meetings with gurus in the field of animation and workshops by some of the main animation schools in Spain, apart from other surprises.    Each year´s edition of ANIMARIO will have a guest international festival that will share its history and philosophy with us. This year´s guest is Mexico City Contemporary Animation Festival, Animasivo.    ANIMARIO was born for the purpose of being a lot more than just an exhibition event and, thanks to the support of Plaza Río 2 shopping centre, there will be a 1st call for the ANIMARIO Award  at the festival aiming at the production of animated films.   An essential date that will make a difference in the lives of artists, newcomers and fans of animation.
