Is it possible to carry out joint research and produce creative frameworks for the right to raise children in the neighbourhood of Arganzuela? In the current socio-political context, raising children looms like a titanic task that must be undertaken amidst precarious jobs and long work hours, insufficient public services and a city designed more for cars than prams. In this context, hiring outside assistance or having one of the parents devote themselves wholly to the children seem to be the only options.

Is it possible, given these circumstances, to create spaces and communities that facilitate communal upbringing? With this question in mind, Silvia Nanclares and Pandora Mirabilia structure the project into two distinct but constantly interlinked parts – participatory research and radiophonic creation – in pursuit of a common goal: creation of a discourse of resistance and an appropriate experiential process that will make us flesh out and imagine questions, answers and proposals for new modes of life and social relations relating to the issue of how to communitise the experience of raising children in the context of the city.

If you’re interested in sharing experiences relating to the city and raising children in the Arganzuela neighbourhood, write to pandora@pandoramirabilia.net or follow us on @PandoraMirab and http://tribuarganzuela.tumblr.com/

Caring IN The City is a project by Pandora Mirabilia, undertaken as part of the One City, Many Worlds creation and research programme.
