Best of Be Festival is back: three of the best shows at the BE FESTIVAL, from three different countries, will be coming to Naves del Español as part of their European tour.
In only five years, BE FESTIVAL (Birmingham European Festival) has become the platform of reference in the United Kingdom for presenting new and innovative interdisciplinary performance from across Europe. Every autumn the festival puts together a programme and takes it on tour around the best venues in the UK, including London's Barbican and HOME in Manchester. Now the Best of BE FESTIVAL will be visiting NAVES DEL ESPAÑOL at Matadero Madrid and Corral de Comedias in Alcalá de Henares in October and November this year.
The three works due to be performed have been chosen from a programme of 24 acts from 14 countries, multidisciplinary shows combining physical theatre, dance, circus, object theatre, performance, digital and projection. From the waltz to the mambo by Radioballet (Hungary)
Winner of Best Individual Performer Prize, BE FESTIVAL 2014
A 1960s dance manual becomes a tool for exploring beauty and education. Ingenious choreography, vintage text and impressive physical feats come together in a virtuoso solo performance.
Loops and breaks by Julia Schwarzbach (Austria)
Julia invites you to play along with her by responding to a series of instructions. A fast-paced mix of improvisation, movement, action and reaction blurring the boundaries between audience and artist.
Waiting by Mokhallad Rasem (Belgium/Iraq)
Winners of the ACT Festival Prize, BE FESTIVAL 2014
A haunting reflection on the meaning of waiting: for a bus, for a kiss from a loved one, for a visa, for an uncertain future. A visually powerful collage of film, art, movement and sound.
