DIMAD celebrates the opening of the new activity 'BOX_POP, Design Fittings at La Central'.
Our objective is to enjoy the latest in design and improve visibility for collaborations between our associates.  We believe that much of what's cooking in our city barely gets out there and ends up without the publicity and the recognition that it deserves.  BOX_POP was born out of the need to get work out of designers' studios, to make sure they go beyond the realms of the private and of the exclusively professional, and to try to make the designer community more visible.
BOX_POP is an up-and-coming exhibition at La Central de Diseño whose content will change five times per year, consisting of five boxes whose dimensions are 1.32 x 0.60 x 0.40m which gives the imagination free range so that four designers, DIMAD members, plus a 'fifth in discord' with the rest, can show us the latest things that they have been doing, what they believe is most representative, what they feel like sharing with the world.  In this exhibition we will be able to see professional creative projects within the design field featuring multidisciplinary and intergenerational characteristics.
  Presentation of exhibitions

The presentation of each of the exhibitions will be planned to coincide with the opening of other DIMAD events in order to increase the repercussion and dissemination of participants' projects.
  Documentation and dissemination

DIMAD will develop an archive featuring all the projects from different exhibitions to create a publication at the end of every season. DIMAD will be responsible for publicizing the event to members, institutions, schools, and the media.  The participants, in turn, are encouraged to use this information to spread the word about their work and about the BOX_POP initiative.   Sponsorship

The first five BOX_POP’s have been made possible thanks to the kindness of the ILIONE enterprise, who has arranged for the production of the boxes.  ILIONE makes itself available to chosen designers for any information they might be able to provide to facilitate the design of the inside of the boxes.
  Curators

The BOX_POPs feature a curatorship arranged on an annual basis that will organize five exhibitions and select each season's twenty-five participants.  For the first one, the Board of Directors has designated designer Lucinda Morrissey.
She will choose the four DIMAD members, plus the 'five in discord', who will participate in each section.  The project's subtitle is “design fittings” because it is difficult to make a choice that fits and because the selection participants have to make something representative of their work activity inside the boxes.
On behalf of DIMAD we would like to thank Lucinda for her wonderful work making everything 'fit', and the participants for their availability and cooperation. Thank you.
