BREVE HISTORIA DEL BLOCKBUSTER

Spectacle cinema, known as the blockbuster since Tiburón, has been one of the most influential and popular forms of modern film, although often overlooked from a critical perspective. This film cycle, organized in collaboration with Elisa McCausland and Diego Salgado, proposes a historical journey through the cinematographic sense of wonder, focusing on its artistic qualities as well as its industrial, technical, and cultural conditions.

From the great spectacles of silent film —with landmarks such as Metrópolis— to the contemporary sagas of the 21st century, the program analyzes the evolution of the blockbuster through its different stages: the tension between narrative and spectacle in classic Hollywood, the reinvention of cinema after World War II, the birth of the modern model with George Lucas and Steven Spielberg, the rise of digital effects and franchises, and the current landscape marked by superheroes, animation, and the emergence of artificial intelligence. A journey through more than a century of popular cinema that allows us to think of the blockbuster not only as a commercial phenomenon but as a privileged laboratory of forms, technologies, and collective imaginaries.
