Caravana Abriendo Fronteras was created in June 2016 as an initiative to make known the situation of migrants and refugees.

After a first meeting, the advocacy group made up of 300 people sailed to Greece with the aim of denouncing that the current policies of governments and the European Union are violating the human rights of thousands of migrants and refugees.
This first denouncement allowed the group to witness the situation on many Mediterranean borders and the participants decided to carry on investing energy in bringing to light and raising awareness of this phenomenon. Upon their return, they have continued to make progress with the development of a state coordination area capable of bringing together and linking platforms, citizen networks, associations and similar initiatives in Spain.
The meeting held in Madrid between 18 and 20 November will provide another opportunity to pool ideas for coordinating and discussing the situation of refugees and migrants, the violation of human rights on borders and the European policies in this regard currently in force.
Caravana a Grecia is made up of different platforms from all over Spain, including Asamblea de Apoyo a las Personas Migrantes (Salamanca), Ongi Etorri Errefuxiatuak (Bilbao), Gazteiz Iratia (Vitoria-Gasteiz), Iniciativa Ciudadana Iruñea Harrera Hiria (Iruñea), Pasaje Seguro, Red Solidaria de Acogida (Madrid), SOS Racismo (Madrid), Passatge segur (Valencia) and Cal la dona (Barcelona).
