THE CINEMA OF THE JAPANESE DIRECTOR’S COMPANY
Founded in 1982, the company brought together a group of young filmmakers seeking to produce personal and daring films outside the major studios, at a time when the industry was undergoing a deep crisis. Directors such as Kiyoshi Kurosawa, Shinji Somai, Toshiharu Ikeda, and Sogo Ishii made their first films within this radical initiative, which revitalized Japanese cinema and propelled some of its central figures.
The series features films that mix satire, violence, melodrama, absurd humor, and social critique. All sessions will be introduced by the mediadistancia team.
