Claudius murders his brother Hamlet, the king of Denmark, in order to avoid an imminent war with Norway. At least that’s how he puts it until this very day. More than four hundred years after Shakespeare portrayed him as being jealous, envious and over ambitious, Claudius wishes to give us another version of events to the ones in which he is condemned without the possibility of defending himself. His argument leads us to revisit the story of Hamlet, from the murder of the king to the death of his nephew. His account takes us through a recognisable landscape (Elsinore), but it is one in which all the elements have been disrupted, different to what we have already seen. This is because we see it through Claudius’ eyes, a man who is convinced that he acted justly, who reveals his greatness and his misery to the audience with the hope of convincing us that the image we have is wrong and unfair…
