An exhibition that takes us through social matters that affect citizens creating a space of criticism and reflection about issues of our time.
In 1968 the walls of Paris were covered with posters of revolutionary slogans and propaganda. These images were created by teachers, students and workers in the occupied "Popular Workshops" of the School of Fine Arts, using such basic techniques as screen printing, lithography and stencils. The artists considered the posters to be "weapons at the service of the struggle, [...] an inseparable part of it. It belongs at the centre of the conflict, that is, in the streets and on factory walls".
"In fact, the Popular Workshop comprises a workshop where the notices and a number of studies are designed: screen printing, lithography, stencils and camera obscura. A general meeting of all militants and artists is held daily. During the assembly, the projects are chosen democratically after debate. The projects for notices are generally agreed upon after an analysis of the political situation and the events of the day or after discussions at the factory gates. Two questions; is the political message correct? Does the notice transmit this idea well? Then the accepted projects are carried out in the workshops by teams which are substituted day and night."
Conscience Printers pays tribute to this basic, egalitarian and direct form of expression which still persists today because of its power of expression and protest.
