The current relevance of archival and memory practices in the field of contemporary creation and culture provides the framework for this meeting, where projects of research and production of situated memories within the context of cultural mediation and new institutionalism will be presented.

The first day, October 24, will open with a reflection on “The Spatial Dimension of Memory.” Geographers Casilda Cabrerizo and Julián Bueno, in dialogue with Alfonso Sánchez Uzábal, Khalil Elías Esteban, and La Liminal, will explore the relationship between Intermediae and Madrid’s urban space, and how this relationship is expressed through archives and both individual and collective memory.

On Saturday, October 25, La Liminal will lead a session titled “Materializing Memory: Strategies of Documentation and Archiving in Processes of Cultural Mediation,” focusing on the methods and approaches used to record and account for what takes place within participatory and collective creation projects.

This meeting is part of a broader itinerary of projects on memory production and archiving developed by Intermediae Matadero Madrid, in connection with critical and situated practices within the urban territory — shared threshold spaces between institutional and independent practices. It relates to recent projects such as Looking Outward to Look Inward (2024), held as part of Matadero Madrid’s Centenary, and anticipates upcoming initiatives that reflect the plural nature of memory in the collective construction of a borderless institution.
