This mural is intended to present the vision of the world that comes from collectively combining the individual visions of the participants.
As far as Jesús Placencia is concerned, there is no difference between "drawing”, “writing”, and “art”: “Human beings began representing about 40,000 years ago; they began writing about 4,000 years ago; they invented art about 600 years ago”, explains the artist whose series Written drawingsbacks up his reflection. As well as pursuing his professional career in the fields of architecture, the plastic arts and teaching, for some years now Jesús Placencia has also been carrying out research into how graphic expression is taught. Not just as an art form, but as an instrument for the integral development of people. He also leads training workshops for various groups (adults, children, people with disabilities, people at risk of social exclusion, etc.) and in different cultural centres and institutions such as La Casa Encendida or the ONCE Foundation.
Following a workshop open to the public in which all the participants will express their concerns, desires, dreams and fears on a wall, the resulting mural is intended to present the vision of the world that comes from collectively combining the individual visions of the participants. “The idea behind this mural is to recover a graphical expression that is free from any bondage to a definition, to a 'name'… let’s express ourselves in a graphic and plastic way without the result having to be (necessarily) artistic”, he explains.
“The time seems right: the gods have died, the king is naked, money does not bring happiness, the party is no longer the vanguard of the revolution, Knowledge has ceased to be a monopoly and plastic creation no longer abides by the rules of Art. The new global brain has begun to function: subjects will no longer command, we objects will no longer obey… So: What do we do now?
What reality shall we invent?
What world shall we build?
How shall we (re)present it?
(d)escribe(us) seeks to capture this new adventure in which, emancipated from old structures, we have the power to imagine, to think and to create a new reality”
