In partnership and collaboration with the Goethe-Institut, Naves Matadero is creating a research workshop on the transfer of language and how it affects contemporary playwriting.

Playwrights representing contemporary German creation will offer reflections on what materials we use to approach writing, what criteria we follow and the specific requirements of writing as opposed to new innovations, multidisciplinary creation or adaptation.

They will explore topics such as What do I want to write?; What motivates me to position myself from my stance of “I” with respect to society?; How do I transform the political into something personal?; How do I take situations from a microcosm to a macrocosm?, etc.
In parallel, the work of German author Holger Teschke will immerse us in the perspective of the playwright who accompanies the stage director. The sort of “scientist” who works between the production, the company, the director and the original text and, therefore, works with the word.
The key concept underpinning this gathering will be the word, which will extend beyond this specific meeting with playwrights by means of slam poetry workshops in educational centres, held in collaboration with poets and international spoken word figures like Germany’s Ken Yamamoto, English native Keith Jarrett and other representatives (to be confirmed). In doing this, our aim is to focus in particular on the minority languages that shape our environment, exploring how these groups preserve their traditions and wisdom through their mother tongues.
