This edition of L.E.V. Matadero features the work of Greek artist Theo Triantafyllidis, who presents Drift Lattice, an immersive simulation of a marine ecosystem where aquatic life coexists with synthetic waste in a constantly evolving digital environment. The sound design for the piece is by Diego Navarro. The installation, on view in Plató at Cineteca Matadero, reacts in real time to global climate and ecological data, becoming a speculative barometer of humanity’s impact on ocean health. In this underwater landscape, species such as crabs, fish, and diving birds move among algae, nets, and plastics, while autonomous drones attempt to restore ecological balance. The work contributes to ongoing research on simulated ecosystems and reflects on the blurred boundaries between natural and artificial environments, highlighting the urgent need for collaboration between human, artificial, and natural intelligences in response to the climate crisis.

Theo Triantafyllidis is an artist who constructs virtual spaces and interfaces designed to be inhabited by the human body. He creates expansive worlds and complex systems where the virtual and the physical merge in strange, absurd, and poetic ways. His work generates awkward interactions and unstable materialities as a means to imagine alternate realities. He has exhibited at institutions such as the Hammer Museum (Los Angeles) and NRW Forum (Düsseldorf, Germany), and in galleries like Meredith Rosen Gallery, The Breeder, Eduardo Secci, and Transfer. He was part of Sundance New Frontier 2020, the Hyper Pavilion at the 2017 Venice Biennale, and the 2018 Athens Biennale: ANTI-. Theo Triantafyllidis currently lives and works in Los Angeles.
