“In the Great Balcony, the most famous European Brothel of the 20s, the upper middle-classes enjoyed very special sessions by taking the part of characters that represented the established powers:  a judge, a bishop, a general… while in the streets a revolution threatened to destroy the State foundations.  The Royal Palace is destroyed and the rebels are about to attack the brothel, while the last residue of the living forces decides to play its last card".
The Balcony (1957) is the work of the French writer, poet and playwright Jean Genet, author of The maids, A thief’s Diary or A love-struck captive. Angel Facio was after this text from 1974, and now, more than ever, he sees the opportunity of representing it because it is a metaphysic reflection about power, with great formal attractions: Its unquestionable literary quality is also a great parabola.
