En el desierto (In the Desert) is an original idea by National Dance Award winner Chevi Muraday, who is also its artistic director and choreographer. The production’s director is Guillem Clua who, together with Pablo Messiez, has written several of the scripts.   The characters in En el desierto are on a journey towards the unknown. They are fleeing because they were expelled from their place of origin, crossing paths and meeting each other during their flight. They are united by a shared need: to resist. They discover that by holding onto one another they will avoid their disappearance.   Change and uncertainty about the future is a constant presence for them. They must survive; they must never give way. Staring into a void, with the little they have been able to hold onto during their escape, they live alongside each other, sticking together in order to survive. An emergency situation, both internally and universally. It is a dialogue in which the voices must cast aside mistrust, suspicions and the stridency of their past to allow themselves to be led by the whisper of their shared goal, to unite in the silence of their lives that are bordering on death itself, like a group of injured animals that do not kill when dying, who lick their wounds to become invincible.   Each of them have their own reasons for fleeing. Chevi Muraday is the inevitable smile of the person who realises the world is a joke. Ernesto Alterio portrays clear-headed madness. Ana Erdozain is a fragile being, unaware of the risks facing her. Desperation, damnation and doom are depicted by Sara Manzano. David Picazo lives life in the background, hiding his eyes through a fear of acting. The character played by Maru Maldivieso is the embodiment of nonconformity, and trying to escape one’s own gender, while feeling trapped inside one’s body is portrayed by Alberto Velasco.
