Exhibition 'Bailad, bailad, malditos' by Carlos Aires

From September 11 to January 24, Nave 0 at Matadero Madrid will host the site-specific exhibition Bailad, bailad, malditos by artist Carlos Aires, as part of the "Abierto x Obras" program. Curated by Jose Luis Romo, the creator invites the public to step onto a dance floor within a shored-up space—an installation that functions as a sculptural ensemble, prompting viewers to navigate through emotions ranging from euphoria to unease.

The exhibition features over one hundred structural props and some twenty screens inside Nave 0, the former cold storage room of the municipal slaughterhouse. The visible scars of this space, which was scorched in a past fire, along with the memory of its violence, have served as the artist's starting point for the installation Bailad, bailad, malditos.

The creator invites the audience to enter a dance floor inside a resilient, shored-up space. Ruin, darkness, and euphoria merge in a sensory piece that immerses the visitor in a metal forest populated by mysterious figures who accompany them through its unsettling soundscape. Dance and unease, night and euphoria go hand in hand in this piece, marking the artist's first solo exhibition for a public institution in Madrid.
