El Charly
Throughout his residence -October 1, 2017 to  April 15, 2018- artist Pedro Luis Cembranos has worked in an audiovisual essay that explores Madrid´s periphery as a mythical landscape for marginal artistic practice.

This project is the outcome of a daily accompaniment of El Charly, resident in the town of Leganés who has been developing for years now a sort of interventions with stones and recycled materials in the grounds between Leganés and Carabanchel, a district of Madrid, where there are scattered shacks and dumps between industrial estates and ring roads and where one can still see the last remains of rural uses and customs.
The audiovisual material recorded throughout the accompaniment of El Charly, is meant to articulate an essay on these barren outskirt lands of Leganés through the sceneries of his own childhood, where the complete destruction at all levels of the environment and landscape seems to prefigure at the same time some kind of primitive conception of space.   Pedro Luis Cembranos

His work flows in narrative structures that start with anecdotes or circumstantial facts that often recreate patterns and codes from social constructs.   His works have been shown in several individual and collective exhibitions in different countries such as Germany, United Kingdom, Cuba, Rumania, Brazil, France, Slovenia, Portugal or Belgium.   He has received different scholarships and awards, such as the Scholarship ArtistaXArtista in Havana (Cuba), Scholarship Multiverso for Video-art creation from Fundación BBVA, Scholarship from Casa de Velázquez, Scholarship from Institut Français-AC/E in Paris, Scholarship Centro de Arte Contemporáneo de Essaouira in Morocco, Scholarship Pilar Juncosa and Sothebys from Fundación Joan Miró de Mallorca, Scholarship CPS of Lisbon, Scholarship Fundación Druckvereiningung de Bentlage (Germany), Awards and Scholarships Generations 2003 and 2006 from Cajamadrid, or support for international mobility of artits from Matadero-Madrid in Brazil.
