Exhibition Legendaria II: Myths Told and Illustrated

XVII Sui Generis Madrid Festival

Following the success of the first edition of Legendaria (2022–23)—which drew more than 25,000 visitors in five months at Casa del Lector and later travelled through the libraries of the Community of Madrid (2023–24)—we continue to explore Spain’s rich catalogue of myths and fantastic creatures in a new installment of the exhibition

Like its predecessor, Legendaria II brings together the two essential elements of our geography’s mythology and folklore. On one hand, the word: the stories passed down from generation to generation that give rise to legends and fantastic beings. On the other, the image: the artistic representation of these tales that shape our collective imagination. With a dual-display format in each showcase—pairing a written story with an illustration inspired by the same myth—Legendaria II unfolds like an open book, celebrating the magic of our mythological heritage. It offers visitors a unique perspective on these captivating narratives, interpreted through the distinctive visions of dozens of acclaimed artists, researchers, writers, screenwriters, and playwrights.

Featuring more artworks and stories than the previous edition, the exhibition will occupy three bridges on the upper floor of Casa del Lector at Matadero. It will open on 14 November 2025 at 7:30 PM and run until March 2026.

Organised by: 17th Sui Generis Madrid Festival / Asociación Cultural Besarilia.

For all audiences.
